Former Team India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that the team management is looking towards Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia later this year. The commentator said that Chahal is sure to be selected. Additionally, he feels that Akshar and young Ravi Bishnoi will be part of the team. Apart from this, he said that Ravindra Jadeja can also be selected, but things will not be easy for him.
Manjrekar said, “India has good fast bowlers, but other international teams like Pakistan and South Africa also have them. Whatever the quality of India’s fast bowling, when the spinners contribute they start winning. India have distanced themselves from Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Varun Chakraborty. They are currently looking for Chahal, Bishnoi and Akshar. Jadeja can also come in the team.
Manjrekar said in the virtual press conference organized by Sony Sports, “I would like to see Kuldeep once he is fit. If India has to win and reach the final round of the tournament, they need two match-changing spinners. When asked about Ravindra Jadeja’s place in the playing XI for the T20 World Cup, Manjrekar said it will not be easy for the all-rounder to make room for the spin bowling options available with India.
Manjrekar further pointed out that the dominance that Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya have shown with the bat in the recent past has made it difficult for Jadeja to find a place. He said, “It is clear that Dinesh Karthik has shown that he can bat at number 6 or 7. The impact he is making is phenomenal and we saw it in T20Is against South Africa and also in IPL. So, it will not be really easy for Jadeja to come and replace him.
Manjrekar further said, “India can think of a player like Axar Patel. In the team now Hardik Pandya, Karthik are batting down the order. There is also Rishabh Pant so it will not be easy for him. But knowing what kind of player Jadeja is, he will ensure that the headache for the selectors does not subside. ,
