The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has imposed a two-match ban and a fine of 2,500 pounds on its opener Jason Roy. The ECB has not disclosed the reason for this but has said that this action against Jason was due to bad behavior. According to a statement issued by the board, if Roy’s behavior does not improve, he may have to face a suspension of one year.
The ECB said in its statement issued, ‘The Disciplinary Panel of the Cricket Disciplinary Committee (CDC) has given its decision against Jason Roy. He has accepted the charges against him. His behavior has brought a bad name to cricket, the ECB and himself. They have violated 3.3 of the ECB guidelines.
The statement further said, ‘Jason Roy has been suspended for the next two matches of England in which he was available for selection. If their behavior does not improve, then this suspension can also be done for 12 months. He has also been fined £2,500 which he will have to pay by March 31, 2022. However, the board has not given the main reason for this action.
Was there a punishment for withdrawing from IPL?
The full details of why the ECB has punished Jason Roy has not been revealed. According to the rules of the Board, if the cause of action is unreasonable, it is not mandatory to confirm the same. Roy recently withdrew his name from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2022, citing sudden bio-bubble fatigue. The franchise bought him in the auction at a base price of 2 crores.
There is also speculation whether the England Cricket Board has taken action against Roy for this behaviour. However, this is just speculation, there is no such confirmation. The ECB has said in its statement at one place that, this has harmed the reputation of the ECB and cricket. After which it is being speculated that maybe that is why the board has punished (withdrawing from IPL).
Jason Roy has not played a match for England since January. He was last seen playing in the T20 series against West Indies. He was then seen playing for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). After this, he joined Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat in the IPL auction but after some time he withdrew his name.
