Team India is currently playing a 4-day warm-up match against Leicestershire on the England tour. This match is the only chance for the Indian players to adapt to the conditions ahead of the 5th Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham last year, postponed due to Corona. The first day of the match was not very good for India. The team made 246-8 for 8 wickets. KS Bharat remained unbeaten on 70 at the end of the day’s play. Apart from him, none of the batsmen could stay on the wicket for long.
Other players including Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got off to a good start but none could convert it into a big innings. All eyes were on Virat Kohli and everyone is expecting him to return to form. Kohli was batting well, but he got out on 33. He was dismissed lbw by Roman Walker.
Kohli bit on the full length game and the umpire declared him lbw. However, Kohli seemed quite annoyed by this decision. He stood on the wicket for some time before going back to the pavilion. He felt that the ball was going outside the off-stump. He also argued with the umpire about it, but to no avail. He had to go to the pavilion as DRS was not available in the match.
Talking about the match, Rohit Sharma (25) and Shubman Gill (21) gave India a quick start. India were reduced to 81 for 5 after the wickets of Hanuma Vihari (3), Shreyas Iyer (0) and Ravindra Jadeja (13) fell cheaply. After this, Virat Kohli and KS India added 57 runs for the sixth wicket.
After this Kohli became LBW. Bharat stood firm and shared a 64-run stand with Umesh Yadav (23). Bharat (70) and Mohammed Shami (18) added 32 not out for the ninth wicket at the crease. Let us inform that Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and famous Krishna are playing from Leicestershire in this match.
