Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who has been dropped from the Indian team, is in talks with Tripura for the role of ‘player cum guide’. This information was given by an officer. Saha also had a dispute with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). “He wants to play the role of ‘player cum mentor’ for Tripura,” this official told PTI here. He is in talks with some members of the Apex Council in Tripura but nothing has been finalized yet. ,
The official further said, “First they have to get a no-objection letter from the CAB and then from the BCCI (Cricket Board of India), then only this process can proceed. Saha, who played a key role in Gujarat Titans winning the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022) title, could not be reached on this. Saha refused to play in the Ranji Trophy after being dropped from the Indian Test squad for Sri Lanka.
After this, CAB’s joint secretary Devvrat Das questioned Saha’s commitment in the media. This angered the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman. After making his mark in the IPL, Saha was selected in Bengal’s squad for the Ranji Trophy quarter-final match against Jharkhand, but without his consent.
Team India’s experienced wicketkeeper Saha strongly opposed this and demanded an apology from Das. He later clarified that he would not play for Bengal again. Saha, who made his debut for Bengal in 2007, has played 122 first-class matches. The right-handed wicket-keeper batsman had a stellar performance opening for Gujarat in IPL 2022.
Significantly, Saha scored 317 runs in 11 matches at an average of 31.70 and strike rate of 122.39. During this he scored three half-centuries. This was his second best season. Earlier he had scored 362 runs in the year 2014. Then he was part of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).
