Dinesh Karthik has brought life to the players of this age by returning to Team India at the age of 37, but Wriddhiman Saha’s case is a bit different. He feels that the selectors of the Indian team have already made up their mind about him and will not be picked in future. The right-hander reiterated that the selection committee and the coach had already made it clear to him that he would not be selected for his future. are not in the plans.
Saha played his last Test match for Team India in December 2021. In IPL this year, he scored 317 runs in 11 matches at an average of 31.70 and a strike rate of 122.39. The wicketkeeper-batsman feels that had the selectors been interested in him, he would have been picked for India’s upcoming tour of England after his performance in IPL 2022.
Saha told Sports Tak, “I don’t think I will be selected in the national team anymore because the coach and chief selector have already told me this. If they were interested in picking me, they would have gone on a tour of England after my performance in IPL 2022. It means they have made up their mind about me.”
Saha further said, “This decision has made it clear that I do not have too many options now. Playing cricket is what matters to me and I will keep playing as long as I feel good.” Saha was part of the Gujarat Titans franchise that won IPL 2022. He played an important role in the tournament as an opener batsman. Saha, along with Ishant Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, were also dropped for the Sri Lanka Test at home earlier in the year.
Pujara’s recent form in county cricket has led to his return for the fifth Test against England. There Rahane got injured. Ishaat and Saha were not selected. Last year the Test match was postponed due to Corona. This match will be played from 1st July. Team India is ahead 2-1 in the series.
