India’s famous diamond merchant Govind Dholakia recently unveiled his autobiography “Diamond are Forever, so are Morals”. In this book he told how he started from zero and started a crore company and brought diamond trade from Belgium to India.
Govind Dholakia was born in the village of Gujarat in a poor farmer family. They were a total of 7 siblings and even in their childhood, like a common poor child, there was lack of better facilities and education.
Dholakia told in his autobiography that he had come to Surat for the first time in 1964 to meet the needs of his family, but he had dreams of doing something different and bigger in his eyes. He started his career in diamond business with diamond polishing. His first success came when he founded Sri Ramakrishna Exports (SRK) in 1970, which later became the world’s largest diamond cutting and exporting company.
