The security of the country’s Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has been increased. The central government on Tuesday provided Z category VIP security to Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in view of possible threats, official sources said. According to sources, the Union Home Ministry has assigned the responsibility of deploying a contingent of around 40-45 armed commandos to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to ensure the security of CEC Kumar.
The investigating agency had recommended increasing security
The decision to give Z category security to Rajeev Kumar has been taken on the basis of an IB report. The report prepared by central security agencies had recommended stronger security measures for Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. Armed commandos will accompany CEC Kumar during his travels across the country. This step has been taken amid preparations for the general elections which are going to be held in seven phases. General elections will start from April 19.

Let us tell you that Rajeev Kumar is a retired IAS officer of 1984 batch. He took over as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner on 15 May 2022. He was appointed Election Commissioner in the Election Commission on September 1, 2020.
