Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Saturday administered the oath of pro tem speaker to BJP’s Ramapati Shastri. Apart from Shastri, the Governor also administered the oath of Pro-tem Speaker to senior MLAs Suresh Kumar Khanna, Suresh Khanna, Jai Pratap Singh, Fateh Bahadur Singh and Rampal Verma of BJP as well as Mata Prasad Pandey of Samajwadi Party.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present during this swearing-in ceremony. Ramapati Shastri has been elected as an MLA for the eighth time in the 18th Legislative Assembly. Being the senior-most MLA of the House, the Governor had appointed him as the Pro-tem Speaker and today he has been administered the oath.
Ramapati Shastri, MLA from Mankapur in Gonda district has taken oath. Now he will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected MLAs at Vidhan Bhavan on March 28 and 29. All of them will administer the oath of assembly members to the legislators on March 28 and 29.
It is to be known that Ramapati Shastri, an MLA from Mankapur seat of Gonda district of UP, became an MLA for the first time in 1974. Since then Ramapati Shastri has been a member in the 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th and 17th Legislative Assembly. This time again he has reached the assembly after winning the election. Ramapati Shastri defeated Samajwadi Party’s Ramesh Gautam by a margin of 42,396 thousand votes from Mankapur assembly constituency. Even before this, Ramapati Shastri was the Social Welfare Minister in the Yogi Adityanath government. Senior BJP leader Ramapati Shastri was earlier the Social Welfare and Revenue Minister in the Kalyan Singh government. Mayawati and Kalyan Singh have been health ministers in the government.
