Terrorist incidents of ‘targeted killing’ have increased in the valley for the last few days. This barbarity is the result of the fury of the terrorists who are engulfing them all around. Recently, a special court of the National Investigation Agency in Delhi has sentenced notorious terrorist and separatist Mohammad Yasin Malik to ‘stay in jail till his last breath’. Yasin Malik, the self-styled godman of a terrorist organization named Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, has been sentenced in the case registered in 2017. Under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership, he hatched many conspiracies, developing mechanisms for terrorist and separatist activities. It is also said that his wife Mushal Hussain Malik, who lives in Pakistan, is an agent of the ISI. Yasin Malik and his organization are guilty of the most brutal massacre and exodus of the non-Muslim community of the Kashmir Valley. Now those sins also have to be accounted for. Terrorists are again trying to repeat the history of 1990. Therefore, the government and the security forces need to change their strategy and give them a befitting reply.
It is noteworthy that on May 30, 2017, the National Investigation Agency started investigation by registering an unnamed case against some Hurriyat Conference leaders. The case was registered against the leaders who had nexus with notorious terrorist organizations operating in Jammu and Kashmir. The case also involved investigations into raising funds through various illegal means and providing them for anti-India activities by terrorist organizations and miscreants. After conducting a thorough investigation in this case, while filing the charge sheet in the year 2018, the NIA found that the leaders of Hurriyat Conference were collecting money by selling seats of medical and engineering etc. of educational institutions of Pakistan and that money was used for riotous and terrorist activities This was being done to destabilize and weaken India by encouraging the Hurriyat Conference, a “triangle” of Pakistan and terrorist organizations. Was active in organized form against India. However, the fourth angle of mainstream white-collar leaders is yet to be revealed. For a long time this “quadrant” has been fighting an undeclared war against India. In February 2019, the NIA found in its investigation that Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Mohammad Ashraf Khan, Masarat Alam, Zafar Akbar Bhat, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, his son Naseem Geelani and Asiya Andrabi were the architects of the war. There is hope of getting punishment for other terrorists and separatists as well. Undoubtedly, Yasin Malik is the most vicious and evil face of the terror and separatist cocktail. Now it should also be expected that the files of the horrific killings of non-Muslim Kashmiris will also be opened. A decisive battle against terror can be fought only by uncovering the ‘Kashmir Files’ that have been gathering dust for decades and taking proper and timely action on them.
Punishment of Yasin Malik, who turned ‘Gandhiwadi’ from a tough terrorist, is welcome, but it is worrying that he and many other terrorists and separatists like him are not being punished in cases pending for decades. Yasin Malik alone has more than 60 cases pending in different police stations of the country. Some of these cases are more than 35 years old. These cases include the kidnapping of Rubia Sayeed, the younger daughter of the then Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in December 1989, the brutal killing of Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna and his four fellow Air Force officers on January 25, 1990, the pitch for disrupting the 1983 India-West Indies match. Of particular note are the Khodna, the heinous murders of hundreds of innocent non-Muslim Kashmiris between 1989 and 1994. The reaction of Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna’s wife Nirmal Khanna on Yasin Malik getting life imprisonment is significant. He has said that ‘Malik is yet to be punished for his sins, this is just the beginning’. Expressing his dismay and displeasure over the delay in getting justice, he also called for the speedy death penalty for him, his associates and the ‘Jaichands’ who turned out to be his helpers. This statement of Nirmal Khanna is enough to prove the fight against terror so far suspicious. She has grown old from a young woman waiting for justice.
In order to reach the end of the war on terror, it should also be revealed that why and at whose behest Yasin Malik was released in 1994 despite his involvement in so many heinous terrorist/criminal incidents? At the same time, the white-collar Jaichands who have been harboring terrorists should also be exposed. Yasin Malik got the punishment because the present central government has taken the initiative to break the back of terrorism. Otherwise the history of being released on bail after being arrested as before would have been repeated this time too and Yasin Malik and his companions were released on bail. By carrying out terrorist activities, they would have been hollowing out the foundation of the country!
Actually, the pace of Indian judicial process is very slow. Cunning and resourceful criminals take full advantage of this. Sometimes the oppressed gets more ‘punishment’ than the criminal. At least the cases related to anti-national activities like terrorism should be disposed of at an expeditious pace. They should be heard in special courts/fast track courts instead of ordinary courts, so that the right message can be sent to their supporters, comrades and society by giving proper and time-bound punishment to the massacres of innocent civilians. Gave respect and acceptance to terrorist leaders, supporters and patrons. It is noteworthy that Yasin Malik was also among the Kashmiri delegation to meet the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and those who went to Pakistan by ‘Caravan-e-Aman’ bus service started in April 2005. He was also sent to America to talk on the ‘Kashmir problem’. These militant separatists, who became the forced stakeholders of the Kashmir problem, talked about India’s unity, integrity and sovereignty in Delhi; He used to teach secularism and freedom in Jammu and used to come down to Pakistan by reaching Srinagar. These anti-nationals, who live on foreign money, have always sowed and reaped the crops of terror and bloodshed. In 2008, in protest against the land allotted to the Amarnath Shrine Board, in 2010 against the encounter of three terrorists by the Indian Army and in 2016 after the encounter of terrorist Burhan Wani, they wreaked havoc in the valley with stone-pelting, arson, sabotage, bomb-guns. No stone was left unturned to malign India’s image in international forums. Actually, these people are not only from India; Rather, they are enemies of peace and progress. Terrorism can be ended only by punishing them for their deeds and prosperity can be brought in Jammu and Kashmir.
Looks like work is being done in this direction now. Gupkar gang’s reaction to Yasin Malik’s sentence exposes his real face and intentions. Gupkar gang spokesman Yusuf Tarigami has said that this will increase the affiliation of the people of Kashmir with the separatists. At the same time, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has said that the situation will not change in this way, saying that people were hanged in the past but the situation has worsened. His reference is to the hanging of Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru. Mehbooba Mufti seems to have lost her mental balance after being ousted from power and she has started openly advocating the enemies of the country. They should desist from anti-national acts otherwise they should be put under house arrest after taking serious cognizance of their provocative statements.
After decades, this time such a large number of tourists have come out to visit Kashmir. All the reforms and positive changes that have taken place after August 5, 2019 have left the terrorists and their supporters restless and disillusioned. The government and security forces should make their counter-terrorism operations even more sharp, quick and clever. At the same time, it is necessary to maintain the confidence and morale of the citizens while making strong arrangements for their safety. It is also a battle of morale. The example of Punjab and Sri Lanka is before us. It needs to be understood that extremism and terrorism increase due to laxity and not giving strict punishment to terrorists/criminals at the right time. Now the style of hospitality of the enemies of the country is changing. This is a late but correct idea.
