In a special session of the United Nations Environment Assembly held in Nairobi, India has stressed the need for the latest science and digital tools. Representing India at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) on Friday, Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that in the present times, the latest science and digital tools are needed to tackle the environmental crisis. He said that for this it is important to emphasize on unhindered exchange of global knowledge and technology.
At the special session of the fifth UN Environment Assembly to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations Environment Programme, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav said this is an occasion to work with international cooperation to tackle major environmental issues.
He said that the 50th anniversary of UNEP requires concerted efforts to strengthen international cooperation, to tackle environmental challenges including climate change, areas of biodiversity and pollution etc.
On this occasion, he conveyed his best wishes on the completion of 50 years of the United Nations Environment Programme. During this period, UNEP has rendered exceptional service to the global community, he added. He pointed out that India joined the UNCP in 1972 to tackle serious environmental challenges.
Significantly, the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly was launched in Nairobi on 28 February. Which will end with a special session on Friday. Bhupendra Yadav had reached Nairobi on Wednesday to attend this special session.
