Thousands of smartphone users are troubled by the problem of quickly draining the phone’s battery. In such a situation, they do not shy away from adopting all the left-handed tricks to increase the battery life. If you are also facing this problem, then you need to take a look at your app portfolio. In fact, pCloud experts have compiled a list of some of the apps that require the most battery life, or simply put, those that suck up your phone’s battery the most.
There are many reasons that make the app a battery-killer. Only the lack of a dark mode option or running complex background features can reduce the efficiency of the app. Location-based apps are naturally more demanding – but at the top of the list are some apps that might surprise you.
These two apps are on top
The Fitbit app number one on the list was the battery sucker—consider it a gas-guzzling hummer of apps. You will be surprised to know that Fitbit, which was bought by Google in 2021, runs 14 of its 16 features even when the app is not in use. Worse, the Fitbit app runs “Camera, Location, Microphone, and WiFi Connection” all the time. The Verizon app scored comparatively in the pCloud study of the biggest battery drainers. Both these apps achieved high scores in the study – 92.31%.

Social media apps are also ahead in sucking the battery
The use of social media and communication apps becomes very high, which drains the battery. Out of the list of 20 most battery killer apps, 6 are social media apps. On average, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, WhatsApp and LinkedIn allow 11 additional features to run in the background, such as photos, WiFi, location, and microphone. All of these require more power to run and eventually drain your phone’s battery quickly. Plus, out of these six social media apps, only Instagram allows dark mode, which can save up to 30% more battery life on a phone. The only other social media app to allow this feature is Twitter – potentially explaining why it didn’t make the top 20.
11 Features Dating Apps Run in the Background
The study found that online dating drains your phone’s battery as much as your emotions. Online dating apps like Tinder, Bumble and Grinder make up 15% of the top killer apps, with an average of 11 features running in the background. Dark mode is not available in all three dating apps and hence requires more energy while using them, which drains the battery quickly.
