If you use the microblogging site Koo, then there is good news for you. In its report, Bloomberg reported that indigenous microblogging and social media app Koo is planning to introduce a feature that will allow users to self-verify their profiles, compared to rival Twitter, where users will be allowed to use Twitter to self-verify. To get verified, you have to go through a whole process.
A verified profile (usually marked by a badge or tick next to the profile name) on social media such as Twitter and Instagram gives the user credibility because it means the service has verified the person’s authenticity.
hard to get ticks on twitter
Twitter allows verified profiles for most celebrities and other Influencers and this can be difficult to obtain and can take weeks or months. Kuo, with its self-verification pilot for general users, is hoping to gain an edge over Twitter.
This is how you will get verification tick on Ku app
Ku, backed by Tiger Global and Accel, said it has streamlined the process by allowing users to self-authenticate. Under the new process, users link their accounts with a unique biometric number from Aadhaar, the Government of India’s digital identity database. They then activate the verification by sending the password to the mobile phone linked to that Aadhaar number. It usually takes only a few minutes.

Koo’s co-founder and chief executive officer Apramaya Radhakrishna told Bloomberg, “The biggest of microblogging sites is automated bots, fake accounts and anonymous trolling. As such, this voluntary self-verification feature will go a long way in making social media safer and more authentic. I’m a good move.”
Ku has almost 30 million downloads
The Koo app has garnered nearly 30 million downloads so far and is available in seven languages including English and Kannada, English and Bengali. The app is available in 10 Indian languages and a dozen more are being added as more regional users go online. The app is also available in Nigeria, which is a testing ground for expansion overseas.
Ramakrishna had earlier said that the identification tick is something the company is on its way to making and releasing to the public. “It will allow ordinary users to say that I am a real person.” He said that this option will soon be available to all those users who want to go for it.

Common user will get green tick
Those who self-verify will have a green tick attached to their profile. The Bengaluru-based startup, formally known as Bombinate Technologies Pvt, has a dedicated Yellow Tick program for eminent users and for cricketers, Bollywood stars and government ministers.
Radhakrishna said, Green Tick will “democratize self-verification” and cut down on the lengthy process. They will improve the platform’s authenticity over time and “advertisers will prefer a social network with real people, not bots.”
Later this week, in another social media first, Ku plans to release his algorithm to the public. They’ll provide information on how Ku users find their feed, how it recommends who to follow, and how it creates hashtag trends.
