Paytm offers its users different ways to make payments, and the company recently added a tap to pay feature to the app for making bank card payments using an Android smartphone. . The feature works similar to Samsung Pay and Google Pay, allowing users to make purchases via NFC at Point of Sale (PoS) machines. Through the feature, payment can be made without debit or credit card. This feature works even without an internet connection, which can come in handy when the smartphone does not have enough network connectivity. iPhone users will not be able to use this feature, as NFC payments are turned off on Apple Pay, which is yet to be launched in India.
The NFC-based Tap to Pay feature can be used at retail outlets, restaurants, grocery stores and any other location that accepts NFC-enabled card payment machines. Users need to add their bank card to the Paytm app, after which the card is ‘tokenised’ so that it can be used on payment machines. The bank provides the convenience of not carrying the card around while using the Tap to Pay feature, another advantage is that the original card details are not shared with any merchant while making the transaction.
