Android devices have come under the radar again and are at risk of being exposed to a new type of fraud. In this fraud, attackers will be able to completely control the Android device. The bug was spotted by security researcher Max Kellerman last month, a serious security bug initially discovered in the Linux kernel. Since Android uses the Linux kernel as the core, this bug is affecting some Android 12 devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S22 series as well as Google Pixel 6 phones.
What is this security risk?
According to Kellerman’s blog post, it has been identified as ‘CVE-2022-0847’ and dubbed ‘Dirty Pipe’. Dirty pipes in Linux allow attackers to install backdoors into the system, inject code into scripts, and change the binaries used by programs. This new security risk is a threat to Android-powered devices such as smartphones, smart speakers, TVs, etc.
Samsung took this decision to protect its users from this risk
Meanwhile in a related development, Samsung has also promised to release security updates for its Galaxy devices based on Android 12 to address the ‘Dirty Pipes’ vulnerability.
