In this budget presented in Parliament, the Modi government had announced that it would bring e-passport service for citizens by the end of 2022. Regarding this, it was said by the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday that the government’s plan is to bring the e-passport service to the citizens at the earliest. The ministry has not given any specific date regarding this, but has asked to release it during the 2022-23 session.
Replying to the introduction of e-passport in the Rajya Sabha, it was said that it would be a composite paper and electronic passport with an embedded radio frequency identification chip and antenna. The e-passport will look exactly like the existing passport. But the chip system will be added in view of security and fraud. Biometric data will be kept in this chip, in which important information like your name, identity and date of birth will be kept. With the help of the chip, the details of the traveler will be easily checked at the immigration counters. Once the e-passport is scanned, the complete details of the person will be revealed.
How to apply
According to the information, the method of applying for this passport will not change, as before, this e-passport can also be applied for. However, according to the government, it can be issued only in 7 days instead of 15 to 20 days. The passport will be issued after verification by the Authority of India. The design of the e-passport will be similar to the existing one, but the back cover may be thicker. In which there will be a storage of 64 kilobytes, in which the photograph and other information of the passport holder will be kept.
