Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday took a jibe at the Congress for holding him responsible for the misery meted out to the Congress in the assembly elections. Amarinder Singh took a dig at his former party saying that the Congress leadership will never learn. Along with this, he also questioned who is responsible for the humiliating defeat of Congress in UP?
Capt Amarinder Singh tweeted saying, Congress leadership will never learn! Who is responsible for the humiliating defeat of Congress in UP? What about Manipur, Goa, Uttarakhand? The answer is written in bold letters on the wall but as always I think they will refrain from reading it.’
Amarinder quit Congress after differences with Sidhu
Captain Amarinder Singh left the Congress party at the end of last year after a tussle with Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu. Earlier, the party had removed him from the post of CM. After leaving the Congress, the Captain formed his new party, Punjab Lok Congress. Punjab Lok had entered the fray in alliance with Congress and BJP. Captain Amarinder was in the fray from Patiala Urban seat but he too had to face defeat. On the other hand, ally BJP managed to win only two seats out of 117 assembly seats.
What did Randeep Surjewala say?
After the election results, Congress national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala had claimed that the party was defeated due to the anti-incumbency wave of Captain Amarinder Singh for 4.5 years. Soon after the election results, Surjewala had said, “The Congress in Punjab introduced a new leadership through Charanjit Singh Channi, who is grounded, but the 4.5-year anti-incumbency wave of Captain Amarinder Singh could not be overcome and therefore People voted for Aam Aadmi Party for change.
