Following the Russian attack in Ukraine, Russia-linked products are now being removed from grocery stores in Canada. Canadian stores are said to be removing Russian products from their stores amid restrictions from Western countries. Canadian newspaper ‘The Globe and Mail’ has given this information.
The Canadian newspaper quoted Empire Co Ltd spokeswoman Jacqueline Weatherby as saying grocery stores such as Sobies, Safeway and Fresco had started removing Russian products from stores as early as March.
Earlier this month, Metro Inc stopped selling Russian products after removing more than a dozen Russian products from its store, The Globe and Mail quoted Metro Inc. spokeswoman Marie-Claude Bacon as saying. Katherine Thomas, a spokeswoman for the Loblo company, told the newspaper that Russian products were almost completely removed from its stores as well.
Russian products rarely sold in Canada include sunflower seeds, kvass malt beer, and chocolate-covered marshmallows. In such a situation, the withdrawal of Russian products from Canadian grocery stores will not have much impact on the Russian economy.
