The violence and deaths in Birbhum district of West Bengal has put the Mamata government in the dock. After the violence, questions are being raised on the Mamta government. Meanwhile, a day after the incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hinted that opposition parties were behind the violence. A total of eight people, including two children, were burnt to death after a dozen houses were allegedly torched at Bogtui village of Rampurhat in Birbhum district in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident happened within hours of the alleged murder of Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat level leader Bhadu Sheikh on Monday.
Mamta Banerjee said in a government program in Kolkata, ‘We are running the government. Why would we want murder, bloodshed and bombings like this? Such things are done by those who are not in power only to harass the government and defame us. Along with this, Mamta Banerjee said that she will visit Rampurhat in Birbhum on Thursday.
Mamta Banerjee said, ‘I am going there tomorrow. I had planned to go there today itself, but some political parties are reaching there and eating sweets. In such a situation, I did not want to go there when the opposition parties are there. I don’t want to quarrel with them unnecessarily. A team of CPI(M) leaders visited the spot on Tuesday. At the same time, a team of Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs is going to reach there on Wednesday.
Attacking the BJP, Mamata Banerjee said that they have already increased the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. They resort to violence to divert attention. Then they call the governor to make a statement in the media. Mamta Banerjee said that the population of West Bengal is 10 crores. The incident happened in a remote village. We condemned it and took immediate action. Such incidents, even more so, occur in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar. We are not cleaning. We are just trying to convey that crime has happened and action will be taken.
