Following the direction of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI has taken over the investigation of the Rampurhat, Birbhum violence case in West Bengal. Senior officials and a team of experts have left for Birbhum in the matter. However, on the other hand, Trinamool Congress questioned whether the agency working under the central government can be trusted for a fair investigation.
According to news agency ANI, agency sources have told that the CBI team has left for Birbhum along with experts. Earlier, terming the Birbhum violence as shocking to the conscience of the society, the Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the CBI to take over the investigation of the case from the state police and submit a progress report on the next date of hearing.
The Kolkata High Court’s decision was welcomed by the opposition parties and alleged that the state police was working at the behest of the ruling Trinamool Congress and efforts were being made to cover up the matter. The Trinamool Congress questioned whether the agency working under the central government can be trusted for a fair investigation. He claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party has been using the CBI to corner the opposition parties.
The Mamata Banerjee-led party said full cooperation would be given to the CBI in the probe but if the saffron party used it to harass TMC leaders, there would be massive agitations.
