Chennai Super Kings CEO Kashi Viswanathan revealed that newly-appointed skipper Ravindra Jadeja told him that MS Dhoni had indicated last season that he wanted to step down from the captaincy and the India all-rounder would have to shoulder more responsibilities. Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain on Wednesday, handing over the CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja will be the captain of CSK in IPL 2022, starting today i.e. March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
MS Dhoni, who made Chennai Super Kings champion 4 times, will be seen playing as a wicket-keeper batsman. CSK on Saturday posted a video in which CEO Kashi Viswanathan talks about Dhoni’s decision to step down as CSK captaincy. The CSK CEO said that he was surprised at MS Dhoni’s sudden stepping down as captain, but added that whatever decision the legendary wicketkeeper takes is in the best interest of the franchise.
He says, “When I heard the news (leaving the captaincy) I was a little surprised. I did not expect this decision from MS at this point of time. It is my personal view. The fact is that whatever MS does, as far as it is As far as CSK is concerned, he does it in the best interest of the franchise. He is one of the most important players for CSK, a captain, a wicketkeeper, a batsman. I think he will do whatever he decides. It will be the right decision for CSK, as I know CSK’s interests come first in their minds.”
Kashi Viswanathan further said, “I spoke to Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) in the evening when we went for practice. He told me that MS had indicated to him after IPL last year that he would have to take on more responsibilities. He said this. Also hinted that he (Jadeja) might have to take over the captaincy at some point. The fact that Dhoni is going to play with him, Jaddu (Jadeja) will keep getting inputs from MS. It will be a big help.”
