Amid reports of hijab controversy in Karnataka and Muslim shopkeepers being banned from the fair, 60 enlightened citizens of the state have written to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. These citizens have urged the Chief Minister to stop the growing incidents of hatred and communal politics in the state. Enlightened citizens have said that the current events indicate a deteriorating situation in the state.
The issue of hijab in Karnataka was caught from Jorsore. The High Court has also given its verdict on the matter. The court, in its decision, said that hijab is not a necessary religious practice and everyone should follow the rules of school uniform. After the verdict, the state government had said that those who did not follow the court’s decision would not be allowed to appear in the examination. Some students who had arrived in the state wearing hijab for the board exams that began on Monday were denied entry to the school.
On the other hand, Muslim traders and shopkeepers in the state have also faced protests during Hindu festivals and temple fairs. Several organizations had objected to the participation of Muslim traders. At the same time, many organizations had objected to the decision of the High Court. Posters about Muslims were also put up around various temples of the state.
At the same time, the Karnataka government has been insisting that it does not encourage the ban and action will be taken against the miscreants. Some groups have also supported Hindus boycotting Muslim traders.
