After the hung projections of the exit polls regarding the Goa Assembly elections, the Congress has become ready with its MLA candidates. On Tuesday, just a day after the exit polls, the Goa Congress is planning to keep its MLA candidates in a resort to avoid contact with other parties. A senior party leader gave this information.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, while other senior leaders of Goa are planning to meet their state election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai. Elections to the 40-member Goa Assembly were held on February 14 and the counting of votes will be held on March 10.
Last time many MLAs had changed parties
The Congress could not save its MLAs during the tenure of the last assembly. The number of its MLAs had come down to just two in five years. Many of its MLAs had joined the BJP. This is the reason why Congress is leaving no stone unturned to save its MLAs safely.
Instructions to the winning candidates to reach the party office directly
A senior party leader said, “All Congress candidates will stay at a resort in North Goa on Wednesday from where they will go to the counting centers on Thursday.” Counting of votes will take place in the cities of Margao and Panaji. The Congress party has asked all its winning candidates in the voting to reach the party office after the results are declared.
What do exit poll estimates say?
Like the last elections in Goa, this time also no party is seen getting an absolute majority. In Goa, both India Today-Axis My India and Republic P-Mark have predicted a tight contest between the ruling BJP and the Congress, with neither the BJP nor the Congress in a position to win an outright majority. According to India Today-Axis My India, BJP can win 14-18 seats and Congress 15-20 seats. At the same time, Republic P-Mark says that BJP and Congress can win 13-17 seats. Times Now-Veto is giving 14 seats to BJP and 16 to Congress.
