Ted Cruz, leader of the Republican Party in America and an influential lawmaker, has called any kind of US sanctions on India foolish. Cruz told US President Joe Biden’s administration that it would be “extraordinary foolish” to impose any sanctions on India under the Combating American Adversaries Through Sanctions Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) to buy S-400 missiles from Russia.
Cruz said, “There have been reports that the Biden administration is considering imposing CAATSA sanctions against India, the largest democratic country on earth. I think the relations between India and the United States have deteriorated under the Biden administration. is an important partner in the regions and the India-US alliance has deepened and strengthened in recent years, but in the Biden administration it is going backwards.”

‘Ties with India deteriorated under Biden administration’
Cruz, referring to India’s absence from the UN General Assembly during a vote on a resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, said India was not the only country to have done so. During another hearing before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Cruz said relations with India have deteriorated significantly over the past year under the Biden administration, which was evident from India’s recent absence from the United Nations. This decision would be extraordinarily foolish.
‘India has some compulsions about Russia’
At the same time, a former top US diplomat told lawmakers that India has some compulsions with Russia and has issues with its neighboring country China over the region. US India Business Council (USIBC) President Atul Keshap said, “India has compulsions with Russia, they have compulsions with China in their neighbourhood, on regional issues.
