Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has got a grace period for a few more days. A no-confidence motion was to come against him in the Parliament of Pakistan on Friday, but before that the proceedings of the house have been adjourned. Now the session will be held on 28 February. This simply means that Imran Khan has got three more days to save his government. During this session, leaders of Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s party Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shirin Mazari, Asad Umar and Ali Muhammad Khan were also present. On the other hand, Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari were also present.
The session, which began with Quranic verses, paid tribute to the departed leaders and the House was adjourned without moving a motion. On Thursday itself, a 15-point agenda for Friday was released by the Secretariat of the Parliament of Pakistan. One of them was a no-confidence motion. However it could not be produced. Before the proceedings of the House began, PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari had said that there would be a ruckus if the motion was not moved today. At the same time, Leader of Opposition Shahbaz Sharif said that we will present the resolution in today’s session. If this is not possible, then a meeting will be held with all the leaders.
Significantly, on 8 March, a notice was given by the opposition parties of Pakistan for the no-confidence motion. According to the rules, the session has to be called within 14 days of the receipt of the notice. Its last date was only 21 March, but the Secretariat decided to hold the session on 25 March. After this the motion could not be moved even today. Significantly, there have been reports of differences between Imran Khan with the Pakistan Army for a long time. It is believed that the army is also behind the unity of the opposition, which is continuously encouraging it.
