Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan had unsuccessfully tried to sack Pakistan’s army chief General Qamar Bajwa. According to media reports, Imran failed in his attempt, because the Ministry of Defense did not issue a notification regarding this. There has been no official statement on this media report so far.
Bajwa’s name was not taken in the media report. However, it is said that Khan had sought the removal of a senior official who had arrived in a helicopter to meet Khas at the prime minister’s residence. According to reports, Bajwa and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum held a meeting with Khan late on Saturday, shortly before 69-year-old Khan was ousted by a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly.
Two uninvited guests reached Imran’s house
According to the report, two uninvited guests reached the Prime Minister’s residence on Saturday night by helicopter, which was under extraordinary security. He met Khan personally for about 15 minutes. An hour before the meeting, Khan had ordered the removal of a senior official present in the meeting. However, no official notification has been issued by the Defense Ministry to sack this senior officer and appoint his successor.
Khan would have benefited by removing Bajwa!
Media reports said Khan was expecting a helicopter to arrive, but believed it would have his newly appointed officers. Khan had also hoped that Bajwa’s sacking would help him overcome the no-confidence motion in the National Assembly, which was ordered by the Supreme Court. Nothing like this happened and Khan was left disappointed.
