The team of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is training fiercely in Surat before the start of the 15th season of IPL, which is going to start from 26 March. The league matches of IPL 2022 are to be played in Maharashtra and the teams are practicing here. But Chennai Super Kings have decided to do their practice in Surat instead of Mumbai as the soil here is similar to Mumbai. The team’s head coach Stephen Fleming has also joined the team a week ago. After joining the team, Fleming has told why the team is training in Surat itself.
On CSK’s podcast, he said, ‘The team has been training well for the last one week and I am happy to be associated with the team. The challenge in Mumbai is that all the teams are training there, so we felt that Surat should come. It’s the same situation here in terms of red clay as it will be in Mumbai, but having the ground to own and being able to open wickets and long net sessions has been very valuable.

Defending champions CSK bought 21 players in the mega auction held in February by spending Rs 45.05 crore. These include three New Zealand players – Devon Conway, Mitchell Santner and Adam Milne. CSK will start their IPL 2022 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Fleming said: ‘We are really glad that the auction went as planned. We have lost some players, but we have also gained some real talent. This year we have got a good mix of youth and experience, so it is good for three to four years, we are really excited with the way the auctions went.
