A grenade attack was carried out in a busy area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. One person has died in the attack and several people are reported to be injured. The attack took place in Amira Kadal area of the capital. In connection with the attack, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had aimed to target the security forces and policemen on duty in the area. Amira Kadal is a commercial zone that sees a huge crowd of locals.
CRPF DIG Kishore Prasad said that the attack took place on Hari Singh High Street, where a team of security forces is on duty, no jawan was injured in the incident. Some civilians have suffered injuries, he said. Soon after, Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattoo wrote on Twitter, “Strongly condemn the grenade attack on Hari Singh High Street and my prayers for those injured in this barbaric, senseless terror attack.”
A police official said, “At 4:20 pm, terrorists attacked the police and security forces deployed at Hari Singh High Street with a grenade.” He said a policeman and 10 others were injured in the incident. The injured have been admitted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital. The area has been cordoned off and efforts are on to nab the culprits, the official said.
