In order to reduce pollution, the Central Government had allocated Rs 50 crore to Raipur Municipal Corporation two years ago to build three smog towers, but for two years the municipal administration kept on selecting three places, whereas in the report of experts, Tatibandh, Telibandha and Telibandha. It was recommended to build a smog tower at Birgaon Chowk, but due to Corona and the lockdown, the file was shelved. Now the file has been taken out again. Officials claim that now the work of building the smog tower will start soon and will be completed this year, but till now the process of tender has not been started.
50 crore was allocated
After New Delhi and Mumbai, the central government had allocated Rs 50 crore to Raipur Municipal Corporation in January 2020 to reduce pollution and install smog towers. Had to do it, but to make a committee of experts to select the place, survey of the committee, then its final report was made that in the meantime two years have passed due to corona infection, lockdown. Preparations were going on that the third wave of Corona stopped the work. Now the exercise has been started again after the situation becomes normal.

According to officials, the air quality index in Raipur has not been described as very poor. The report said that there is no need to install high and huge towers or purifiers here. Air can also be purified with medium sized equipment. Air pollution can be reduced with devices like smog towers, air purifiers and 20 mist fountains.
what is smag tower
Municipal officials told that the smag tower is a big air purifier. It absorbs polluted air or its particles from its surroundings. It then releases clean air back into the environment. Like the common home purifiers, this appliance also runs on electricity. Experts claim that it cleans 16 million m3 of air (in summer) every day. In winter this figure is 8 million m3.
Three places have been identified
The work of setting up the smog tower in Raipur was stalled due to Corona. At present, three sites have been identified for installation of towers. This plan will be completed at the earliest.
