Several Congress MPs from Kerala met the party’s national president Sonia Gandhi separately on Monday. During this, he complained about senior party leader Shashi Tharoor. In fact, Tharoor has accepted the invitation of the CPM to attend the conference being organized under the ‘Party Congress’, due to which there is anger among the state Congress leaders. According to the report, Sonia said that she will consider the PCC’s complaint in this matter.
Congress’ Kerala unit chief K Sudhakaran said the party has refused its leaders to participate in the program as it is fighting strongly against the CPI(M)-led government in the state over the proposed K-Rail project. Tharoor, however, said the subject of the conference for which he has been invited was not related to Kerala or K-Rail.
What did Tharoor say when he accepted the invitation?
Tharoor said, “He had invited me and I accepted it. This time he has invited me to participate in the conference being organized as part of his ‘Party Congress’. There is nothing wrong in engaging in political discourse and the topic of the seminar is not related to K-Rail or Kerala.”
Tharoor and Thomas may also meet Sonia
Congress leader KV Thomas has also accepted the invitation of CPI(M). Both Tharoor and Thomas are planning to approach the Congress high command to seek permission from party chief Sonia Gandhi to attend the event. The Left has invited Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor and former Union minister Thomas to attend various seminars ahead of its 23rd ‘Party Congress’ to be held in Kannur from April 6-10.
Congress in opposition to the ‘Semi-High Speed Silverline’ rail project
At the same time, CPI(M) state secretary K Balakrishnan said the Left has invited Congress leaders for various seminars, but their party leadership has refused them to attend. The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has been holding massive protests over the Left government’s proposed ambitious ‘semi-high-speed Silverline’ rail project.
