In the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) also tried hard but the party did not succeed in opening the account. Owaisi’s party, often accused of being the ‘B team of the BJP’, lost the deposits of 94 out of 95 candidates. However, Owaisi’s party is also being blamed for the defeat of SP and victory of BJP in many seats. BJP candidates have won these seats by a very small margin. If you look at the figures, Owaisi’s party cut the kite of SP in at least 8 seats.
AIMIM contested 95 seats in Uttar Pradesh, but did not win even one. Except for the Mubarakpur seat of Azamgarh, in 94 seats, the security of the candidates was forfeited. AIMIM got 4.51 lakh votes which was 0.49 per cent in vote percentage. When Owaisi held fast rallies in UP, during this time his convoy was also shot.
BJP candidate Ritesh Kumar Gupta defeated Samajwadi Party’s Mohammad Yusuf Ansari by 782 votes in Moradabad Nagar seat. Here AIMIM candidate Waki Rushdie got 2661 votes. BJP candidate Sankendra Pratap won the chair seat of Barabanki by 217 votes, while Kumail Ashraf Khan of AIMIM got 8541 votes here.
Dharam Singh Saini, who joined the SP after resigning from the Yogi government just before the elections, also faced defeat in a close contest in the Nakud seat of Saharanpur. Here Mukesh Chaudhary of BJP defeated by a margin of 315 votes. AIMIM candidate got 3,593 votes in this seat. In Shahganj seat of Jaunpur, SP’s Shailendra Yadav lost by 719 votes, where AIMIM candidate Naib Ahmed Khan got 8128 votes.
In Bijnor seat, BJP candidate Suchi defeated Neeraj Chaudhary of RLD by 1,445 votes. Here Owaisi’s candidate Munir Ahmed got 2,290 votes. AIMIM got 3308 votes in Sultanpur’s Isauli seat. Whereas the margin of victory was only 269 votes. In Sultanpur Sadar seat, BJP candidate defeated SP candidate Anoop Sanda by 1009 votes. Here AIMIM’s Mirza Akram Baig got 5,251 votes. In Bhadohi’s Aurai seat, BJP won by 1,647 votes, where AIMIM’s Tedhai got 2,190 votes.
SP lost in many seats by a very small margin
While the BJP alliance has won 273 seats, the SP alliance had to be satisfied with 125 seats. There are 10 seats where the margin of victory of SP was between 200 and 1000. There were 17 seats where the margin of defeat was between 1 thousand and 5 thousand. There were 33 seats where the margin of defeat was between 5 thousand and 10 thousand.
