Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate also lost in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, who used to take extra vigil before counting of votes and keep an eye on the local election office through binoculars. BJP has made a big achievement by winning 255 seats out of all 403 seats in the state. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party (SP) came second with 111 seats.
Yogesh Verma had contested on an SP ticket from Hastinapur assembly seat in Meerut district of western Uttar Pradesh. According to the official website of the Election Commission, he lost to BJP candidate and sitting MLA Dinesh Khatik in Hastinapur by a margin of 7,312 votes.

According to the website, Yogesh Verma got around one lakh (43.55 per cent) votes, while Dinesh Khatik got 1.07 lakh (46.72 per cent) votes. At the same time, Sanjeev Kumar of BSP stood third with 14240 votes.

Even though no complaint of EVM tampering was received in Hastinapur during or before the counting of votes, Verma came into the limelight after videos of his extra vigilance surfaced on social media. Another popular candidate from Hastinapur seat was actress-turned-politician Archana Gautam of Congress, who appeared to be nowhere in the electoral battle.
According to the Election Commission website, Archana got only 1,519 (0.66 per cent) votes, while Sanjeev Kumar of the BSP got 14,240 votes and stood third among the eight candidates who tried their luck in Hastinapur.
