Even before the notification of the assembly elections, the opposition’s moves to corner the BJP government of the state on many issues were foiled. People have done the work of showing confidence in the plans of the central and state government, law and order as well as the words of PM Modi and CM Yogi. In this trust expressed on the BJP, important announcements like free electricity, restoration of old pension, caste census, free education also did not work for the opposition.
A few months before the elections, the opposition started encircling the ruling party from all sides after the farmers’ agitation from western Uttar Pradesh and then the death of farmers in Lakhimpur. It was believed that the displeasure of the farmers would drive the BJP out of power, but the BJP’s policies and election management neutralized this arrow of the opposition. Farmers from west to east are also telling the results that they have been with the BJP.
Employees did not express confidence even on the promise of old pension
In its manifesto, the Samajwadi Party gave a big issue of restoration of old pension to the employees of the state. This was such an issue that even the SP would have had to struggle a lot in fulfilling it. After this announcement of SP, many organizations of employees were seen standing in favor of SP. An attempt was also made to create an atmosphere among the employees by making this announcement of SP fiercely viral on social media, but this also did not work for the opposition.
No street to make reservation scam issue
The opposition also raised the issue of tampering with the reservation of backward classes in teacher recruitment and other recruitments. On the issue of reservation, the youth of backward classes even waved posters in the meetings of big leaders of BJP. An attempt was made to propagate that the BJP government was cheating in the reservation of backward classes, but in recent times, the announcement of reservation in NEET and other competitive examinations by the central government has also worked to blunt this edge of the opposition. The move to make employment an issue also failed.
Public also ignored promises like free electricity
The opposition, especially the Samajwadi Party, made a big announcement like free electricity up to 300 units and tried to influence about 30 million electricity consumer families. This issue also cropped up a lot. Parties like Congress, AAP had also made electricity an issue. SP’s ally SubhaSP had raised issues like caste census, free education. Everyone was left behind.
This time the social engineering formula did not work for BSP
The social engineering formula adopted by BSP 15 years ago was completely rejected by the people of the state. The enlightened class conference started from Ayodhya to connect the Brahmins with the help of faith also did not work. The BSP may have given tickets to 68 Brahmins, but not a single candidate could win. Out of 403 BSP candidates, only one Kshatriya Rasra, Umashankar Singh won from Ballia. He has been elected MLA for the third consecutive time on a BSP ticket.
This time the BSP decided to contest all the seats in UP on its own. It is a different matter that after Mayawati and Satish Chandra Mishra, BSP neither has any other big leader nor has any hold in other fraternities. Even after this, the BSP entered the fray on its own and held more than 400 meetings and more than 150 meetings. The BSP fought in every seat, but the wind could not be made in its favor.
Mayawati bet on OBC 110, Dalit 92, Muslim 88 and Brahmin community 68 candidates along with others. Of the 19 MLAs who won in 2017, 12 left. Due to the absence of the old leader of the BSP, bets were placed on the new in most of the seats. The result of BSP’s weakening credibility was that it lost 402 seats and won only one seat.
