Ruckus over EVM in Banaras: Attempts to murder 300 people, case registered for robbery
In fact, after the defeat of the BJP in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he had raised questions on this. Raising questions on EVMs, Advani had demanded the conduct of elections to four states, including the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, held in October 2009, through ballot paper. LK Advani had said, “We should take the decision to conduct elections only on ballot paper until the Commission ensures that EVMs are completely safe and cannot be tampered with.” This was the first time that questions were raised on EVMs by a national leader and a big party.
The question was raised giving the example of Germany
During that time the BJP had given the example of banning EVMs in Germany. LK Advani had said, ‘No one is raising questions about rigging in elections. But the bigger question is whether there is any possibility of EVM tampering. However, Election Commissioner SY Qureshi had said that the commission was fully satisfied that EVMs cannot be tampered with. A technical committee was constituted by the commission in this regard under the leadership of PV Indreshan, former director of IIT Madras.
BJP leader wrote a book on EVM, Advani wrote the preface
It is worth mentioning that the then BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao had also written a book about the flaws in EVMs. Not only this, the foreword of this book was also written by BJP veteran LK Advani. Let us tell you that in the 2009 general elections, Advani was the PM candidate from BJP, but the party had to face a crushing defeat.
