Five Aam Aadmi Party candidates have filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. These include former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Punjab co-in-charge Raghav Chadha, Dr. Sandeep Pathak, Sanjeev Arora and Ashok Mittal. The special thing is that the nomination deadline is till 3 pm and it is reported that till now no other candidate has submitted nomination.
Harbhajan Singh, who was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by AAP, told about the future plans. Talking to The Tribune, he said that he has been given a responsibility and he will fulfill it. He told that most of all he will promote sports. Singh started his cricket career in the year 1998. At the same time, he played his last match in 2016. However, he announced his official retirement from cricket in 2021.
On the other hand, AAP’s Punjab affairs co-in-charge Chadha is an MLA from Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar. Whereas, Pathak is the party’s election strategist and shaped AAP’s campaign in Punjab. Pathak stayed in Punjab for about 3 years and formed a booth level organization for AAP. Among the candidates nominated by AAP are Ashok Mittal, Vice Chancellor of Lovely Professional University and Sanjeev Arora, founder of Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Care Charitable Trust.
The term of Rajya Sabha members ends on April 9. These include the names of Congress leaders Pratap Singh Bajwa and SS Dullo, Shwet Malik of BJP, Naresh Gujral of Shiromani Akali Dal and SS Dhindsa of SAD United. Whereas, the tenure of Congress’s Ambika Soni and SAD’s Balwinder Singh Bhundar ends on July 4. Punjab has 7 seats in the Rajya Sabha. AAP had won 92 out of 117 seats in the Punjab Assembly elections.
