Petrol and diesel prices are expected to rise in India amid speculation that crude oil prices will rise due to the Russia-Ukraine crisis. It is being said that the price of petrol and diesel in India may increase this week.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameshwar Teli said on Tuesday that oil companies are yet to meet to decide on oil prices.
He said, “The Ministry of Petroleum decides the rate of oil together with the oil companies. The meeting is yet to take place. People know that the oil prices are high in the international market. Due to the ongoing war between the two countries, the prices are also increasing. There will be a meeting of oil companies in the next few days after which things will become clear.
Meanwhile, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday denied that the government had controlled oil prices due to elections and said the decision would be taken in the best interest of citizens.
Addressing a press conference, the Union Minister said, “Oil prices are determined by global prices. There is a war like situation in one part of the country. Oil companies will look into it. We will take a decision in the best interest of our citizens.” To say that the government controlled oil prices because of elections is not correct. We will ensure that our energy requirements are met.”
Earlier on Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the BJP-led central government over rising fuel prices and advised people to fill their tanks. He warned that the election proposal of the Center is going to expire. In a tweet, he said, “Full your petrol tanks immediately. Modi government’s ‘Election’ offer is going to end.”
