Farmers can once again return to the borders of Delhi. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) is going to hold its first meeting in Delhi on March 14 specifically to restart its agitation and discuss its future plans. The Kisan Morcha has suffered a major setback due to the massive victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently concluded assembly elections. In fact, the Kisan Morcha had strongly opposed the BJP in the elections, but in the election results, there was no significant effect of the farmers’ protest.
While analysts say that SKM now faces a tough challenge. A member of the organisation’s decision-making panel said the farmers’ goals were not just about one election, though the Kisan Morcha campaigned widely to defeat the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP easily won the election once again, blunting the massive farmers’ protest. Although, this time there has been a slight decrease in the seats, but still the party has managed to get an absolute majority. As India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh’s elections were all eye-catching as it influences national politics.
Rakesh Tikait, leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union and a prominent face of the farmers’ movement, said on Sunday that whatever party is in power, our agitation will continue till our demands are met. I don’t want to talk about UP elections. Everything is over, but the 100% movement will continue. I am with SKM.
Tikait also denied rumors in some circles that he might now end his participation in the movement. Tikait asked that news channels are saying that we have failed. If we failed, why did the government withdraw the agriculture laws?
Avik Saha, the face of SKM in West Bengal, said the immediate concern of the United Kisan Morcha is to withdraw all cases registered against farmers during the agitation, some of them under the harsh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He said that I have also been accused under UAPA. am i a terrorist
Farmers also want a law that guarantees a minimum price for major agricultural products to protect their income. Let us tell you that the farmers movement of 2021 spread across many states was one of the biggest agricultural movements in decades. Their main demand was that the Modi government should withdraw all three agricultural laws. Facing discontent, the Modi government finally repealed these laws in December 2021.
