After the defeat in the UP assembly elections, all eyes are on the alliance partners of the Samajwadi Party. The 2017 assembly election was contested by the SP in alliance with the Congress. The people rejected the alliance and in the Lok Sabha elections, the SP contested with the BSP. This time SP has contested the elections with RLD. Once again, the kind of success that was expected has not been achieved. In such a situation, the question is arising whether SP and RLD will fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together?
This time, due to the farmers’ movement, the SP alliance expected the most from western UP. In such a situation, the question is also that what was the reason that people did not like the alliance of SP and Lok Dal in western UP and both parties could not defeat BJP together.
RLD President Jayant Chaudhary answered these questions in a conversation with NDTV. Jayant said that in western UP, where the riots had the most impact, we have defeated the BJP. Has defeated BJP in districts like Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Meerut. These people had brought the issue of migration to Kairana and we have defeated BJP there too.
Jayant Choudhary said that Sangeet Som, Umesh Malik, Suresh Rana, who raised bitterness with their statements, have all lost the elections. There was not even 80 vs 20 in the election. We believe that we have not been able to reach our point to the public. The effect of the peasant movement was also seen. In many seats we lost by less than 500 votes.
Jayant Chaudhary said that not being able to contest the BSP elections has also been the reason for the defeat. We have learned a lot from this election. He clearly said that the next Lok Sabha elections will also be fought with Akhilesh. People were angry with BJP but have not voted against. We will raise the issues of the people by staying in the opposition. We will not allow BJP to do 80 vs 20.
RLD fielded candidates on 33 seats in western Uttar Pradesh but won only 8 seats and got 2.85% vote share. However, compared to the 2017 elections, there is a big jump. In 2017, RLD was successful in winning just one seat. This time the BJP and its allies won a total of 273 out of 403 seats. This is 49 seats less than the 2017 elections. Akhilesh Yadav’s SP won 111 seats and its alliance got 125 seats. Compared to the 2017 election, 73 seats are more.
