The Calcutta High Court will issue its order today i.e. on Friday on a petition seeking a probe by central agencies into the violence in Birbhum district of West Bengal. At present, SIT investigation is going on in this matter. The Kolkata High Court took suo motu cognizance of the Birbhum murder case. On Thursday, the court had reserved its order after completing the hearing on the matter.
The state opposed the request for a CBI or NIA probe, saying a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the West Bengal government is conducting the investigation and should be given time. After hearing all the sides for two days, a division bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice R Bhardwaj said it would pass the order after considering the arguments. Additional Solicitor General YJ Dastur said that the CBI or the NIA are ready to initiate investigation if the High Court passes an order in this regard.
