There has been a change in the rules regarding passports in India. Passports (Amendments) Rules 2025 have been implemented by the Ministry of External Affairs, which is necessary for all people. According to the new rule, the Indian citizen must have a birth certificate to get a passport.
New rule has come into effect from 28 February
Let us tell you that it will be mandatory to submit a birth certificate to get a passport and this rule has come into effect from 28 February. It also has to be kept in mind that the same berth all certificate will be valid which has been obtained from recognized Authority from Registrar of Births and Deaths or The Municipal Corporation or Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 (18 of 1969).
This rule will only apply to citizens who are born after October 1, 2023. Citizens born before this date can be used to make passports with a birth certificate, school leaving certificate, permanent account number, matriculation certificate, driving license issued by Transport Department, Election Photo Ident Card or LIC policy etc.
