Welcoming a new pet into a family is always special. However, for one couple, it was something extraordinary as their dog had literally traveled around the world to reach them. The dog traveled from India to Canada where it found a forever home. A video of this Canadian couple meeting a dog has gone viral online. In India, with people mostly eager to buy exotic breeds of dogs, the couple is winning hearts online for their decision to adopt an Indian dog rescued from the streets. After months of eagerly waiting and a ton of paperwork, Havila Hager Wiley and her husband, Stefan, finally got a dog.
In an Instagram video, the young couple spoke about their unique day. In which he was panicking and was going to the airport to pick up the dog, which he named Indy. In the video, the dog can be seen slowly coming out of the carrier, approaching the couple and smelling the new members of their family. It is written in the caption accompanying the post that at first it was a little shy, but the friendship did not take long. Welcome Home Indy. The dog was adopted through Dharamshala Animal Rescue in India. In another post delving further into Indy’s adoption story, the woman said it took the country dog five days to reach her new home, including two days waiting for her connecting flight to Toronto.
Sharing more details about Indy’s rescue, Willie said the dog was hit by a vehicle when it was young, injuring one of its legs and its tail. His tail never healed. So now he has the tiniest little tail. However, this did not stop the couple from adopting him. The family took this dog with them from going on treks to digging snow and meeting new friends in the neighborhood. His story has inspired many people to adopt Indian dogs not only in the country but also abroad.
