Such a practice is prevalent in three villages of Surkheda, Sanada and Ambal in Chhota Udaipur of Gujarat. These villages are inhabited by tribal people who are carrying on their age-old traditions even today. They believe that this custom reminds them of their ancestors. This custom regarding marriage has been going on here for a long time. There is such a tradition in these three villages that the bridegroom’s sister takes a procession as a groom and goes to take her sister-in-law. In all the rituals, the bridegroom performs all the duties as the groom’s sister. Even during the wedding, the groom’s sister fills vermilion in the demand of her sister-in-law.
What if the groom doesn’t have a sister?
If the groom does not have a sister, then in such a situation a virgin girl from the groom’s family performs this function as the groom’s sister. The interesting thing here is that the groom remains ready but the mare does not climb. Waits for the bride at home.
