Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu
Israel Hamas Ceasefire: Clouds of crisis appear to be looming over the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has said the Cabinet will not meet to approve a ceasefire agreement unless Hamas withdraws. Netanyahu’s office accused Hamas of reneging on parts of the agreement in an attempt to get a last-minute exemption. However, he did not say anything in detail about these exemptions.
America and Qatar had announced the agreement
Earlier, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu had said late on Wednesday night that the ceasefire agreement with Hamas has not been completed yet, work is being done to finalize it. Just hours before Netanyahu’s statement, America and Qatar had announced the agreement. After the announcement of the agreement, a large number of Palestinians came out on the streets and expressed their happiness.
Netanyahu had said this
At present, Netanyahu has not clearly stated whether he accepts the agreement announced by Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Sani and US President Joe Biden. Netanyahu did say in a statement that he would issue a formal response only after the final details of the agreement were finalized.
Hamas attacked
Hamas launched a terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, in which 1,200 people were killed and 250 others were taken hostage. Israel then retaliated with attacks that killed more than 46,000 people, according to Palestinian health officials. Additionally, an estimated 90 percent of Gaza’s population was displaced, creating a humanitarian crisis.
