Sheikh Hasina in trouble
Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, who left the country and is living in India, is in big trouble. The interim government of Bangladesh has canceled the passports of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 96 individuals. Local Bangladeshi media reported on Tuesday evening that the action was taken based on allegations of involvement in incidents of deaths and enforced disappearances during the insurgency in the country in July. Of the revoked passports, 22 were linked to enforced disappearances, while 75, including Hasina, were linked to violence during the July uprising, which reportedly led to several deaths.
Sheikh Hasina may be arrested
Additionally, an arrest warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) against Hasina and 11 others on charges of enforced passport disappearance. Even if Sheikh Hasina moves from India, she will be arrested. The tribunal has issued a deadline of February 12 for the arrest and production of all accused parties, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
ICT Chairman, Justice MD Golam Murtuza Mojumdar has issued the arrest warrant, stressing the importance of a thorough investigation into the case. The Inspector General of Police is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that accused persons are apprehended and brought before the tribunal.
Arrest warrant has been issued for the second time
Let us tell you that Hasina, who left for India after the fall of the Awami League-led government amid historic anti-government protests in August 2024, is now facing her second arrest warrant. Accusations of crimes against humanity and genocide during the large-scale uprising in July and August have led to an intensified legal investigation against him. In such a situation, Hasina is in big trouble.
