Istanbul: The peace talks between Russia and Ukraine for the first time in 3 years ended in less than 2 hours on Friday. This information was given by the Turk’s Foreign Ministry and a senior Ukraine official. A senior Ukraine official accused Russia of holding ‘unacceptable demands’ during the peace talks on Russia, which was not discussed earlier. The official said that these demands include asking Ukraine forces to return to its controlled area, so that a full ceasefire can be implemented.
What did Ukrainian side say?
On the condition of anonymity not to reveal the name, the senior official said that it seemed as if the Russian delegation, ‘intentionally wants to put forward unacceptable demands so that the meeting remains inconclusive’. He said the Ukrainian side reiterated that his attitude focuses on achieving real progress, including immediate ceasefire and solid diplomacy, “as the US, European partners and other countries have proposed.”
Ended meeting
The Turkian Foreign Ministry also said in a statement that the meeting has ended. According to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhi Tikhai, a Ukraine delegation led by Defense Minister Rustom Umerov held a meeting with a Russian team led by Vladimir Medinski, an associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also released a picture of the meeting. Russia and Ukraine officials sat face to face around a U-shaped table.
