Indian-American Republican leader Nikki Haley on Sunday advised New Delhi to take seriously the concerns raised by US President Donald Trump about Russian oil imports and should quickly talk with Washington on the matter.
He said that the long -standing partnership between the two democracy can be the foundation to remove the recent business differences. Haley said, “The friendship and goodwill between the two largest democrats in the world gives a strong basis for leaving the existing fluctuations. There is a need to communicate a difficult dialogue to resolve issues like business disagreements and oil imports from Russia.”
Haley, US ambassador to the United Nations during Trump’s President’s tenure, warned that even though energy relations with business differences and Moscow are serious, the two countries should not listen to their major strategic goals.
He said, “But we should not forget what is most important: our common goal. America needs a friend in India to face China.”
These statements have come at a time when Indo-US relations are stressful. The Trump administration has imposed secondary tariffs on New Delhi on continuing oil purchases from Russia. Due to these tariffs, the fees on Indian exports have now reached 50 percent, which is one of the most stringent charges declared by Trump in addition to Brazil.
According to reports, differences have also increased due to Trump rejected by New Delhi to offer arbitration in India’s dispute with Pakistan.
India has strongly criticized these steps and described them as “inappropriate, unjust and non-essential”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took a tough stand and said that India will not compromise the interests of farmers and fishermen. He said, “I know that I have to pay the price, but I am ready to do this for the farmers.”
