Islamabad: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai will visit Pakistan to participate in an international conference on girls’ education in Muslim communities. Malala will be one of the key speakers at the two-day conference to be held on January 11-12, Express Tribune reported. This will be Malala’s third visit to Pakistan since she went to Britain for treatment in October 2012. She came to Pakistan for the first time in October 2022 after the attack on her. Malala was just 15 years old when Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) shot her in the head over her campaign for girls’ education.

Shahbaz Sharif will inaugurate

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the program and deliver the keynote address. One of the conference organizers told The Express Tribune that Malala had confirmed her participation in the conference and would deliver a keynote address highlighting the importance of girls’ education in Muslim communities. The Federal Ministry of Education and Vocational Training will host an international conference on “Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities: Challenges and Opportunities”. A statement issued by the Foreign Office said that this global summit will promote dialogue and play a big role in resolving the challenges in girls’ education.

This is how the conference will end

The conference will conclude with the formal signing ceremony of the ‘Islamabad Declaration’. One of the agenda of the conference is to discuss the ban on girls’ education imposed by the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Although nothing is clear on the Afghan situation, sources said the joint declaration will definitely reject the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education. Sources said that Pakistan has invited the Afghan Taliban government for the conference. There is no confirmation whether the Taliban government will send any delegation or not.

Who will be included?

According to the news of The Express Tribune, relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have remained tense for the last several months over terrorist bases inside Afghanistan. The event will be attended by over 150 international dignitaries, including ministers, ambassadors, scholars and academics from 44 Muslim and friendly countries, representatives of international organizations including UNESCO, UNICEF and the World Bank.
