President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan had agreed to “complete and immediate” ceasefire. He claimed that this is the result of America’s mediation talks.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described it as a ceasefire by the US and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shahbaz Sharif’s “wisdom, conscience and politicism” in choosing the path of peace “. The ceasefire occurred a few hours after India and Pakistan attacked each other’s military establishments, causing the ongoing struggle dangerously.
The US President said in a post on Truth Social, “After a long night conversation in the US arbitration, I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to complete and immediate ceasefire.” Trump further said, “Congratulations to the two countries for using general intelligence and great intelligence. Thank you for focusing on the matter!”
Trump’s announcement came by Rubio after a conversation with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir.
US Vice President JD Vance thanked the leaders of India and Pakistan for his “hard work and desire to join the ceasefire”. Vance said in a post on X, “The work of the President’s team, especially the secretary Rubio, was fantastic. And I thank him for his hard work towards the leaders of India and Pakistan and the desire to join this ceasefire.”
Rubio said in a statement that he is “happy to announce that the governments of India and Pakistan have immediately agreed to the ceasefire and have agreed to start talks on wider issues at a neutral site.” He said, “In the last 48 hours, I have interacted with senior Indian and Pakistani officials including Vice President Vance and I have interacted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Army Chief Aseem Munir and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Aseem Malik.”
Government sources in New Delhi said that the case of firing and military action between India and Pakistan was directly settled between the two countries. He said that Pakistan’s DGMO interacted this afternoon after which there was a discussion and agreed.
In Islamabad, Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the ceasefire with immediate effect. Dar said in a post on X, “Pakistan and India have agreed to the ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always tried for peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and regional integrity!”
He told Geo News, “We have agreed to the ceasefire from 4:30 pm today (Pakistani time).” Giving detailed information, he said that due to busy diplomacy that lasted throughout the day, the military channel of the hotline became active between the two countries and the officials came in contact and “The incident happened.”
United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres welcomed “all efforts to reduce the struggle”. “We are monitoring, but welcome all efforts to reduce the struggle,” General Secretary’s Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq told PTI in New York. Soon after the declaration of the ceasefire, Pakistan said that it was opening its airspace for all types of traffic.
Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) said, “All airports in the country are available for general flight operations. Passengers are requested to contact the respective airline for the latest schedule of their flights.” Due to tension with India, the airspace of Pakistan remained closed for some time, which disrupted regular air traffic and inconvenience passengers.
The tension between the two neighbors had increased significantly, when the Indian armed forces on April 22, in response to the Pahalgam attack on 22 April, made accurate attacks targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK). The wires of this attack were connected to the border.
Pakistan on Friday carried out drone attacks targeting 26 places in India from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat on Friday. The Ministry of Defense said that the enemy’s efforts to target important establishments including airports and Air Force bases were successfully thwarted.
