Tehran: An Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander and his pilot died on Monday when an ‘autogyro’ (helicopter-like aircraft) crashed during an operation near the Pakistan border in Iran. General Hamid Mazandarani died during a military operation in the Sirkan border area located in Sistan and Baluchistan province, state TV channel reported. The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that the accident occurred during a military exercise.

The ‘autogyro’ is similar to a helicopter in rotor design, but is simpler and smaller. It is commonly used in Iran for pilot training and border surveillance. This aircraft is capable of carrying two people. (AP)
