Vientiane (Laos): Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a special meeting with the Prime Ministers of Australia, Japan and New Zealand in Laos on Thursday. During this, he also met the heads of state of many other countries and discussed strengthening bilateral relations with India. PM Modi met his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba here for the first time. Just last week, Ishiba became the Prime Minister of Japan. Meeting the Japanese PM, he discussed ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors including infrastructure, connectivity and defence.

Apart from this, he also met the Prime Minister of Australia and his all-time friend Anthony Albanese. PM Modi shared pictures of his meeting with Albanese on his X handle and wrote that it was a great pleasure to meet the Australian Prime Minister. Let us tell you that Prime Minister Modi also met New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on the sidelines of the ASEAN-India Summit in Vientiane. He is in the capital of Laos on a two-day visit. He met the newly appointed Prime Minister of Japan Ishiba on the sidelines of the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and congratulated him on his new responsibility and wished him success in taking Japan to new heights.

PM Modi wrote on ‘X’, “Had a very meaningful meeting with Prime Minister Ishiba. I am happy to meet him just a few days after he became the Prime Minister of Japan. Promoting cultural ties was also discussed.” Ishiba replaces Fumio Kishida, who resigned from his post in favor of the new leader. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiba had excellent talks on the sidelines of the India-ASEAN Summit in Lao PDR,” the Indian Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X.

We value our friendship with New Zealand, which is bound by a commitment to democracy, freedom and the rule of law. Areas like economic cooperation, tourism, education and innovation were discussed in our conversation. The Prime Minister’s Office said that the two leaders agreed to deepen India-New Zealand partnership in many areas including trade and investment, defence, education, agriculture, space technology.
