Russia and Ukraine on Sunday exchanged 146–146 warfasts by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) mediation. This information has been shared by Russia’s Ministry of Defense and Ukraine President Woldimir Zelancesi.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense said that all the freed Russian prisoners have been taken to Belarus, where they are being given medical and psychological assistance. Along with this, Ukraine has also returned eight Russian citizens to Russia, who are residents of the Kursk region.
Ukraine’s President Zelanski wrote on Telegram that the exchange of prisoners has been completed, although he did not give the number. He shared pictures of the returned soldiers smiling and said that most of them were in captivity since 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine. Zelansky also reported that a journalist who was taken captive a month after the attack is also involved in this exchange. He thanked UAE for cooperation in this process.
Zelancesi said, “The exchange continues. This is probably possible because our soldiers are constantly catching Russian prisoners, causing us to grow exchange funds.”
Meanwhile, Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinski alleged that Ukraine was delayed in returning citizens of the Kursk region. He says that more than the last three months have passed and more than 20 residents are still waiting to return. Medinski said that Russia has to do “tough bargains” to get back its citizens.
